Dear Customer:

Earlier this year, Videojet shared a Safety notification as a precaution to inform you about a quality issue with certain Power Supplies (Videojet part number 355026) manufactured or sold from the period January 2011 to February 2015 used with Videojet Excel, PC70, PC80, and 2100 printers. This notice only relates to Videojet Excel, PC70, PC80, and 2100 printers; it does not affect any other Videojet printer models..

Videojet has performed a comprehensive root cause analysis and has identified the potential issue we believe may be affecting certain Power Supplies. We are now launching a replacement program.

Replacement Program

As part of Videojet’s commitment to quality and safety, Videojet will replace free of charge any Power Supply produced in 2011 or Power Supplies with specific identifiers. (See identifiers in the document named FAQ and Legacy Excel HV Power Supply Identifiers.pdf). There are two ways to gain assistance:

  • For customers who are experienced self-maintainers and who are able to change a Power Supply without assistance from a Videojet Service Technician, you may use the online form located at URL www.videojet.co.uk/uk/homepage/excel-power.html and follow the process to order a replacement Power Supply.
  • For any customers who would like assistance replacing a Power Supply, please contact your Videojet Service team on: 0330 1233 930 and we can make arrangements to assist with the replacement process.

Until the replacement Power Supply is installed, all customers should continue to follow the recommended practices below. These recommended practices were part of Videojet’s original customer Notification of this issue and are included below for your reference.

Prior Information Regarding Power Supply Notice – Continue to Follow These Recommendations

Videojet identified a quality issue that may affect some power supplies used to power Excel, PC70, PC80, and 2100 printers. If the quality issue is present in a power supply, it could result in poor print quality (misplaced drops or changing print height) or high voltage faults.

By following Videojet’s standard operating procedure and safety recommendations for operating and cleaning the printer, potential risks associated with a nonconforming power supply can be mitigated. Please refer to your printer model’s Operator Manual and Service Manual for all standard operating procedures and safety recommendations. We would like to emphasize two aspects of these that are important to follow:

Steps to Follow During Printing

  • Make sure the Positive Air Adjustment setting to the printhead is maintained at 1.5 SCFH. Excel, PC70, PC80, and 2100 Printers are designed to be used with positive air running to the printhead. In order to help ensure correct operation, the positive air setting to the printhead should be maintained at 1.5 SCFH. Maintaining the correct positive air is necessary to help ensure proper and safe operation of the printer.
  • The attached positive air adjustment document (361069-01_Excel 2000 Service Manual_Positive Air Adjustment.pdf) lists the steps that must be followed to properly set the positive air flow. A Flow Meter tool (Videojet part number 356230) is required to execute the procedure.
  • Please contact Videojet if you have any questions about how to adjust the setting.

Steps to Follow During Cleaning

  • Extra precautions should be taken when cleaning the printhead to make sure that the Videojet instructions are followed. The attached document (361069-01_Excel 2000 Service Manual_Cleaning the Printhead.pdf) lists the steps that must be followed when cleaning the printhead.
  • Please note that before starting the procedure, the AC power must be turned off.
  • All maintenance fixtures, brackets, and equipment (service trays, printhead holders, and compressed air supply) should be electrically bonded directly to the Videojet equipment when in use.
  • After cleaning, make sure to reattach the printhead cover and ensure positive air is adjusted per the procedure outlined in the attached positive air adjustment document (361069-01_Excel 2000 Service Manual_Positive Air Adjustment.pdf).
  • Please contact Videojet if you have any questions.

Power supplies manufactured in 2011 can be present in printers produced from January 2011 to February 2015. Likewise, any spare power supply having a serial number indicating manufacturing year 2011 or having the specified identifiers may be affected. (See identifiers in document named FAQ and Legacy Excel HV Power Supply Identifiers.pdf).

If you have any questions, please contact the Videojet Service team on: 0330 1233 930.
